Does Katy ISD have experience with online learning?
Yes. Katy ISD has offered online courses since 2011. The District gained approval as an online provider by the NCAA and College Board in 2017 and earned the TXDLA Award for Excellence and Innovation in 2021. Also, the District supported more than 7,300 students taking 17,000+ semester courses during the 2024-25 academic year.
What steps is Katy ISD taking to handle online safety?
Screening of student work is ongoing by District systems while they are logged into Katy ISD applications. When students are in the Learning Management System (Canvas), steps have been taken to ensure materials and links are educationally appropriate. Concerns about student online safety can be communicated to the LVHS team directly or through the student SpeakUp app.

Why is Katy ISD offering a virtual high school now?
Katy ISD has long been a leader in innovative learning experiences. For over 10 years, the District has provided supplemental virtual courses, and recognizes the increasing desire for flexibility and choice. Senate Bill 569, passed by the 89th Texas Legislature, expanded opportunities for districts to offer full-time virtual learning statewide. This allows Katy ISD to extend the legacy of excellence to students both within and beyond district boundaries.
