You just might be the person we are looking for if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
- 3 or more years of teaching experience
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
- Knowledge of subjects assigned
- ESL certification required for, ELA, Reading
- General knowledge of delivery and assessment of virtual instruction through completion of the Katy ISD Online Instructor Certification Course or other approved Online Course Development/Management training
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to utilize technology for communication and student management
The mission of this role:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth through flexible scheduling options. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
What success looks like for this role:
- Facilitates and implements lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district virtual curriculum program.
- Accommodate lessons as appropriate for students.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Provide virtual office hours support for students up to three (3) course sections per semester.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Cooperate with other members of district or campus staff for planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Utilize required technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
- Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal evaluation and notify parents and staff when students are struggling with content or pacing.
- Present positive role model for students.
- Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations and IEPs.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Participate in campus and district staff development programs when applicable for virtual instructors.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile and maintain all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents as required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings as required.
- Articulate the district’s mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet identified needs.
- Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques to enhance community and parent involvement in the local school system.
Virtual Instructor Special Considerations
- Adjunct instructors are not included in Katy ISD benefits program (those who also are employed full-time for Katy ISD retain these benefits).
- Evaluation for this position will be on an alternate tool (not TTESS).
- No more than three (3) adjunct virtual course sections may be taught per semester.
- Course availability is determined by student enrollment, and the number of sections is not guaranteed.
- Courses will be available during the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
- Course instruction is asynchronous and weekly office hours and tutorial support must be provided to students.
- Attendance at a teacher orientation session is required each semester.
Workplace operational environment to include:
Frequent and prolonged usage of technology/computer. Must maintain emotional control under stress.
